This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit theselfemploymentsociety.com, take our assessment, join our email list, or purchase and use our programs.

The Self-Employment Society™ is a brand operated by Heath Close Online Business Management LLC ("we," "us," "our"). If you have any questions about this policy, contact us here.

1. Information We Collect

Information you give us directly

  • Your name and email address.
  • Answers you submit to our online assessment or quiz.
  • Account details when you register (username, password, profile information).
  • Billing information you enter at checkout, such as your name and address. Your full payment card details are handled by our payment processor and are not stored by us.
  • Content you post inside our community, such as comments, questions, and uploads.
  • Any information you send us by email or through a contact form.

Information we collect automatically

  • Usage data, such as pages viewed, links clicked, and time spent on the site.
  • Device and connection data, such as IP address, browser type, and operating system.
  • Cookies and similar technologies. See Section 7.

2. How We Collect It

We collect your information through the following tools and platforms:

  • ScoreApp — hosts our online assessment. When you take it, ScoreApp collects your name, email, and your answers, then passes them to us.
  • Kajabi — hosts our website, checkout, course, and community. It collects account, purchase, and usage data.
  • Stripe / Kajabi Payments — processes your payment. The processor handles your card details directly under its own privacy terms.
  • Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — manages our email list and sends our emails. It stores your name, email, and engagement data.
  • Google Workspace — handles email we exchange with you.
  • ManyChat / Instagram — if you contact us through Instagram, these tools may collect your message and profile handle. 
  • Meta Pixel — a tracking tool on our site from Meta (Facebook and Instagram). It collects data about your visit, such as pages viewed and actions taken, and shares it with Meta so we can measure and target our advertising.
  • Pickaxe — powers our AI thought partner. See Section 6.

3. Why We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Deliver the assessment result and any resource you request.
  • Provide the program you purchased, including course access and community access.
  • Process your payment and manage your account.
  • Send you emails you have signed up for, including program updates and marketing.
  • Respond to your questions and provide support.
  • Improve our content, offers, and website.
  • Meet our legal and tax obligations, and protect our rights.

4. Legal Bases for Processing

Where the GDPR applies to you, we rely on these legal bases:

  • Consent — for marketing emails and non-essential cookies. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Contract — to deliver the program you bought and manage your account.
  • Legitimate interest — to improve our services and keep our site secure.
  • Legal obligation — to keep records required by law.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information for money.

We share it with the service providers listed in Section 2, who process it on our behalf, and only as needed to run our business.

We also share limited data with advertising partners, such as Meta, so we can measure and target our advertising. Under California law this may count as "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can opt out. See Section 9.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or in connection with a sale or transfer of our business.

6. AI Thought Partner (Pickaxe)

The Program includes an AI thought partner, an AI assistant you can chat with inside the Program. We deliver this feature through Pickaxe, a third-party AI platform that runs the assistant on our behalf as a data processor.  

What it collects.
When you use the AI thought partner, we and Pickaxe collect:

  • Your email address, used to create and log in to your Pickaxe account.
  • The messages you send to the AI.
  • "Memories" the AI stores about you to personalize your experience, such as your name, role, and preferences.  


How we use your conversations.
We use your conversations with the AI for one reason: to give you the help you came for. We do not monitor your chats. We do not read them to check up on you. We do not sell them. We do not use them to build a profile of you or to market to you. The AI stores memories to personalize your experience. That is the extent of it.  

How your inputs are processed.
Pickaxe passes the messages you send to third-party AI model providers, such as OpenAI and Anthropic, which generate the responses. Your messages are processed by these providers to produce the AI's replies.  

Data processing and international transfers.
Pickaxe's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy serve as our Data Processing Agreement, governing how Pickaxe handles your data. Pickaxe stores data on servers in the United States. Where your data is transferred from the EU or the UK to the United States, Pickaxe applies appropriate safeguards under Article 46 of the GDPR, including the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension.

Why we use it.
The only purpose of this feature is to deliver the AI thought partner inside the Program.  

Please protect your privacy.
Do not enter sensitive personal information into the AI, such as health, financial, or government-ID details. Do not enter other people's confidential or personal information. Treat the AI like a work tool, not a private vault.

7. Cookies

Our site uses cookies to run essential functions, remember your preferences, and understand how the site is used. Some cookies are used for advertising, such as the Meta Pixel, and are set only where you allow them. You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site works.

8. How Long We Keep Your Information

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as long as needed to provide our services. We also keep it as required for legal, tax, and accounting purposes. When we no longer need it, we delete or anonymize it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Request deletion of your information.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent for marketing at any time, using the unsubscribe link in any email.
  • Request a copy of your information in a portable format.

If you are in California: you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your data. We do not sell your data for money. We do share some data with advertising partners such as Meta for targeted advertising. To opt out, contact us here. You will not be treated differently for exercising these rights.

10. International Data Transfers

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may store data in the United States and other countries. If you access our services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

11. Children

Our services are for legal adults only. You must be old enough to enter a binding contract in your country or region to use them. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has given us their information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review it regularly.
